- White Water Rafting-

Raft 1 Start of the Day
Another awesome day that Plumbing Services provided for its team, this time to Murchison to Ultimate Descents Base for a White Water Rafting Trip.
Departing from the base after being kitted out in our thermal layers under the wetsuits, we travelled south of Murchison to "Helicopter Corner" to enter the water just before O'Sullivan's Rapids.
The sun was shining and there hadn't been much rain in the area for quite some time, so the water levels were relatively low. Luckily for us that didn't mean the trip was any less lively.
We had two rafts - with a mix of our team and a few other tourist couples. The rafts were well matched with experience and personalities and the highlight for most was the end of the trip when jumping off the high rocks into the foaming water and floating down the serene water until the rafts caught up.
After a nice hot shower back at base, a cup of hot tea/coffee and fresh baking, we then went down to the river side and enjoyed an amazing feast of smoked salmon, garlic bread and fresh green salad.
A very satisfying day enjoyed and appreciated by all of the team.
- Waka Abel Tasman -
23rd May 2024 - Kaiteriteri

We travelled to Kaiteriteri and met with the team from Waka Abel Tasman. We started out with a Maori introduction and blessing for our trip. The weather was blessing us already with the sun shining and no wind, perfect for paddling.
After we had launched we quickly got into a good rhythm, making good progress cutting through the rocky channel while the tide was high, and the rocks were far beneath us. We seemed to reach Split Apple Rock rather quickly.
Our guide Todd was very experienced and informative and good fun, we all enjoyed his stories of the local flora and fauna, and the history of the early Maori in the area. We stopped for our first break and had some lovely home made fresh Kawakawa tea, and then he taught us the correct way to paddle now that we had settled in.
We paddled by Adele Island where the birdlife was so amazing that we stopped paddling and just listened to the chatter.
At the other end of Adele Island we were lucky to see the fur seals bathing on the rocks and a few hopping into the water.
We went ashore for a lovely lunch and fortified ourselves with a little bit of chocolate for the trip back. The leaders in the front of the waka did a good job of keeping us in time and in the right direction. They also pointed out the properties that Plumbing Services had done the plumbing on in that area. It's always nice to see what the team have been doing.
By the end of the day we were all feeling refreshed, and replenished, and surprisingly not too sore from the paddling that we were not used to. The day was completed with a circle of appreciation and we headed for home.
The Waka Trip helped us to create the 212 degrees .... that one degree of difference where working together can get you to some amazing places. "Thanks Team" for another fabulous day.

Fascinating tour with great enthusiasm showing us the process

The team at Plumbing Services enjoyed a Team Day out fishing at Anatoki Salmon Farm in Golden Bay.
We arrived and settled in with a nice relaxing coffee in the sunshine, stroll around the ponds, and read of the information panels displayed which do a great job explaining the processes of the Salmon Farm.
We kitted up and got instruction from the team at Anatoki Salmon and diligently chose our spots. Some of us chose the sunny side of the pond, and were soon shedding layers as the sun beat down on us, and hoping that the fish were looking for some sun also.
It seemed like not more than 15 minutes later the first catch was made, and a quick succession of catches followed. With everyone getting at least one fish. We took them in to be smoked and enjoyed some for lunch and took some home to be shared with the families. The hardest decision was what seasoning to put with them, so we got a little of everything.
One of our team managed to catch a female salmon who had matured prematurely and was full of roe. No one was brave enough to eat the roe, and the fish was designated compost. Meanwhile another member of the team showed us how his drone worked.
After we had enjoyed our salmon and had a look at the eels we departed and regrouped at the Dancing Sands Distillery in Takaka. There we did a little tasting, a little purchasing, and a little tour of the Distillery. They are in the process of upsizing so we got a great look at the new system before it has been commissioned.
With the weather turning, we headed for home. Another fun day out for the team with some skills and knowledge passed on through out the day.
